My Knee

Two weeks after surgery! It is still pretty swollen but getting better

3 days after
Had 23 staples which weren't too bad to be removed!

Well Friday the 29th came I had been told to report the the out-patient surgery floor at 1:45pm, so we had planned to get all ready for the next 30 days that morning well that all changed when I got a call at 8:30 to see if I could come in at 9 instead of course I said yes but it made for a crazy 30 min rush to get the boys up and dressed , feed , packed to go to Aunt Sarah's house. We did it though Tim dropped me off and then drove the kids to my sister's for her to watch them so Tim could be with me. He had to hurry so he would be back in time to hold my hand for the IV (I know after having kids I should be a pro but I still get nervous and need a little support). At 10:30 Tim had to run across the street for his 2 week post-op appointment for his tonsils. They wheeled me into surgery around 11am, it took about an hour and a half. The Dr said my knee was worse than he thought at they had to smooth out my knee cap and add a bone graft as well as do the initial breaking of the tibial and screwing that in place and doing the scope.

It has now been just over 2 weeks I am in a brace that goes from my upper thigh to my ankle.(oh yes peeing has been a little difficult) I have to be no weight baring until Dec 2nd when they will clear me to walk on it again. I have to do physical therapy everyday with Tim, I do leg bends and leg raises. It hurt a ton the first 7 days. It has been a struggle being helpless in a since and very humbling to allow others to help me. Tim has been amazing! He has been doing everything, laundry, diapers, baths, dinner, driving, all cleaning. I am getting better at figuring out how to make things work with just one leg but still I look forward to being able to walk on both legs. I am not sure when my left knee will be done but I am hoping it can get done between semesters, since it has been hard to get to class and such! I I am so grateful to a wonderful grandma who came and helped with some cleaning and took my boys to the park and a wonderful sister who came and helped me when Tim had classes I wouldn't have made it with out you! I am also so grateful to my sister Robyn who drove down to help us for the weekend. Of course I am so thankful for my wonderful husband who might need a month vacation after this is all over.
Some of the hardest things have been not being able to pick up Jakey when I am standing and not being able to play with them since it hurts to not have my leg elevated. Also figuring out the shower i am sure glad my mom had a shower chair for me to borrow. We are surviving and are grateful also for the meals that our ward provided they truly helped a ton. The boys are also adjusting to a mom who is not able to do as much. Kaleb is so helpful when Tim is not here and sometimes when he is! Jakey just misses having mommy do all the normal stuff. We keep hoping this would encourage him to walk but it has not he is however standing more by himself so maybe soon!
